Description

Here's a quaint little picture from a quaint little railway, opened in 1879 and closed in 1929, the Southworld railway trundled it's way from the coast at Southwold to the mainline station of Halesworth. There's more detail and pictures at: [link]

It was a nice little line, not governed by the strict running and timetables of the mainlines, in essense it reminds me of the Lynton and Barnstaple railway, another beautiful little narrow-gauge line closed long before its time.

More recently there are plans afoot to reopen the line as a tourist attraction...but guess what? The NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) OAPs of Southwold are objecting to the plan saying that it will destroy the environment and wreck the town...it's a narrow-gauge railway, not an atomic bomb...

Some people make me so mad...

But anyway! Enjoy this little pic of a little line in its prime. ^_^

Sometimes a narrow gauge is the best kind of railway also I found a Youtube video of a model version of the Southwold railway www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKZOFd…
