Description

Here it is at long last! My 1000 Kiriban XD No text on it because I figured it might ruin the picture, but thank you all for getting me thus far, well over 1000 pageviews, you guys (and gals) all ROCK!!

So, the pic itself, well I was inspired by :iconeildard:, it's not quite what he suggested, but I've always had a soft spot for the old 'Stringbags' and here we are, the one aircraft that would change history.

The History (from wikipedia, who write these things better than me):
"At dusk that evening (26th May 1941), and in atrocious weather conditions, Swordfish from Ark Royal launched an attack. The first wave mistakenly targeted HMS Sheffield which had been detached from Force H under orders to close and shadow Bismarck. Although precious time was lost by this incident, it proved beneficial to the British in that the magnetic detonators on the torpedoes used against Sheffield were seen to be defective and for the following attack on Bismarck were replaced by those designed to explode on contact. Despite the lateness of the day it was decided to try again. The attack went in, in almost darkness, at around 21:00. A hit by a single torpedo jammed Bismarck’s rudder and steering gear 15° to port. This resulted in her being, initially, able to only steam in a large circle. Repair efforts by the crew managed to get the rudder back to 0° but now the ship was sailing towards King George V and Rodney, two Home Fleet battleships that had been pursuing Bismarck from the west. The largest and most powerful warship yet commissioned had now been rendered a near-sitting duck by a single antiquated biplane."

There's also a good episode of 'Dogfights' about the sinking of HMS Hood which lead to the pursuit of the Bismarck and her eventual demise:

I used photographs for the sky and sea, and downloaded brushes for the shell splashs, flak clouds and rain.
The brushes are from :iconredheadstock: and are definately worth checking out, sadly I can't remember where I got the sea and sky from, Google Image search most likely, but whoever did them, thank you!

Anyway, hope you enjoy this pic, despite it's many little errors XD

EDIT: 12/12/2016 - It's been brought to my attention that the pilot of the Swordfish in this picture Lt Cdr John 'Jock' Moffat died yesterday at the age of 97. RIP sir!
