Description

The USS Taylor, an Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate and her SH-60 Seahawk LAMPs Sea Hawk anti-submarine helicopter swerve out from the Atlantic convoy, zig-zagging to mess up the tracking of any enemy submarine, of which there are plenty.
Dozens of Soviet submarines flooded through the Greenland-Iceland-United Kingdom gap a few days before the war began, alerting NATO to the fact that trouble was on the way. Unfortunately, now that the Soviet submarines are out into the Atlantic, tracking them becomes difficult, some are followed by NATO submarines, but for the most part, they will only be detected either by chance if they are diesel and they have to snorkel or when they move into position to attack, and that is what the USS Taylor and her helicopter are there to do.
No less threatening is the enemy in the air, Tu-22M Backfires, Tu-16 Badgers and Tu-95 Bears are an ever present threat as Soviet RORSATs (Radar Ocean Reconnaisance Satellites) attempt to locate the convoys and vector in the air strikes, if the RORSATs cannot locate the convoys, then the specialised Tu-142s (A maritime recon variant of the Tu-95) might have more luck. The USS Taylor and the rest of her colleagues in the convoy escort duty have a potent array of Surface to Air Missiles and Close In Weapons Systems to deal with any Anti-Ship Missiles that the Soviet bombers may throw their way. However, their weaponry is not infinite and their systems not infallable. There is a very high likelihood that not all of these vessels will make it to England, once again the staging point for operations in Europe.
